SANTERIA by Sublime
Transcribed by Jeremy Roswell (groswell@mailhost2.csusm.edu)

I got sick of asking for the tab so I bought the CD and here's my
rendition of Sublime's "Santeria". The lyrics in the CD insert are slightly
different from what Bradley actually sings so I changed them below to
get as close as I could to the actual words sung. All the chords should be
barred. The E on the 7th fret, the Ab on the 4th, the Dbm also on the 4th
and the B on either the 2nd or more conveniently the 7th. The chords in the
song might all be power chords, I'm not really sure. I put the chords along
with the first verse and chorus so you could get the idea. Each chord is
strummed and muted four times in the verses. The chorus riff I have included
below is not exactly accurate as is my intro but they are pretty close. I'll
try and get the solo later but I'm not sure I can do it with my acoustic.

Intro:

Daddy's got a new 45
And I won't think twice to stick that barrel straight down Sancho's throat

SUBLIME's
         Santeria-

As close as I could come to it at least. Oh, well, I think I
did a damn good job on it, but you don't have to. Toy with it
some and try to make it sound better. The intro was all I got,
but it was worth it anyway. Have fun...

^’the last guy who tabbed this didnt get all of it, but he
did get some parts. he tried. they have programs for that, i
think. anyway, i got most of the solo here and other
^”revisions^‘ , but if you have the audacity to complain about
my work, you can flame me at verge17@hotmail.com. on with
tha^“ tab.

^’this is obviously a 2- guitar song, but if you have just
yourself, than start w/ g1, play g2 during the verse and
then switch back for the solo and choruses. for the
choruses, you might want to try to throw in some extra bass
notes (by playing the roots of the chord shape used for the
riff) for a fuller sound if you only have one guitarist. if
you are playing w/ a bassist, don^“t bother...

^’std tuning

^’intro- guitar 1- clean elec.- let ring throughout

 Dbm B

^’verse- guitar 2- clean elec. hits whole chord on each
beat and unfret left hand immediately producing a
quarter-note staccato (choppy) rhythm.
 E Ab Dbm B
|/ / / / |/ / / / |/ / / / |/ / / / |

^’chorus- guitar 2, using the same strumming method as in
the verse, repeats the following-
 A B E Dbm

 -guitar 1 repeats this riff.

D|----------------------------6-------6----|
A|---------------------6----4-----------4--|

^’solo- guitar 1 played with guitar 2 playing verse rhythm-
-this is an approximation, some parts are ^”iffy^‘ and sound
decent cuz i filled in the fast parts that i couldn^“t exactly
transcribe with other notes from the soloing scale that Brad
uses (major penatonic in E).
for the last part of the chorus before the solo hit an E5
before playing the solo itself.
by the way, the end of each line of tab does not mean the
end of the measure...

solo for Santeria by Sublime
by Jeremy Roswell

Ok here is the long awaited solo of Santeria. It is very close to the
actual solo but I know there are a few mistakes. The main problem I had
was trying to figure out the downward and upward scales that Bradley plays
really fast. I wrote them out as best as I could but I know they're missing
several notes. I have found that just sliding down the strings sounds good
but I don't think this is how it's really played.

After this is just leads back into the chorus.

Not too long ago I sent in an entry giving the
tablature for Sublime's SANTERIA. It included
the opening and the chorus. In this entry, I
will make one very slight correction to the
chorus, but as a bonus, I am giving you the
verse chord progession, and that solo we've all
grown to know and love ALL FOR THE LOW, LOW
PRICE OF (three monthly installments of)
$49.95!!!!!!:

Sublime's SANTERIA!!!!

Chorus corrections:
5-------7-------------------5p0----|
--5-------7-----9---7p4---------55-|
----6-------8-----9----5-6p4-------|
------7-------9--------------------|
-----------------------------------|
-----------------------------------|
..played three times, then repeat
the first eight notes once.

Verse chord Progession (palm muted)

   E A D G B E
   X_X_______X X_X________
Am |_|_|_|_1_| 1st fret Ab |_|_1_1_1_|
   |_|_2_3_|_| 2 |_|_|_|_|_|
   |_|_|_|_|_| 3 |_|_|_|_|_|
   |_|_|_|_|_| 4 |_|_|_|_|_4
   |_|_|_|_|_| 5 |_|_|_|_|_|

   X_X_X______ X_X________
D |_|_|_|_|_| F#9 |_|_|_|_|_|
   |_|_|_2_|_1 |_|_|_|_|_|
   |_|_|_|_3_| |_|_|_1_|_|
   |_|_|_|_|_| |_|_2_|_|_3
   |_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_4_|

Just so no one is confused about chord reading,
I'll explain it all:

-The strings are as marked above the A-minor chord.

-The "X's" above the strings signify to muffle that string.

-The frets (also as marked above A-minor) start at the
first (at the top) and go to five (at the bottom).

-The numbers on each fretted string are to tell what
fingers to use:
1-index finger
2-middle finger
3-ring finger
4-pinky
So the F-sharp 9 Chord in stantard tab form would be:
|--4--|
|--5--|
|--3--|
|--4--|
|--X--|
|--X--|

..and finally, the solo:
(right after he says "My soul will have to...")

[Chorus continues]

Symbols-

SLIDING / is for sliding up(5/7) and \ is to slide
         down (7\5)
BENDS/RELEASE ' is a quarter step bend (1/2 fret)
^ is a half step bend (1 fret)
v is to release from a bend
HAMMERON/PULLOFF h is to hammer on(5h7) and
                   p is to pull off(7p5)

the solo's a little hard to get down at first, but
it fet's easier after a while.
